Continental Reifen GmbH are world leaders in the research and development of bicycle tyres. This is reflected in their pioneering work in the use of advanced tread materials like Black Chili Compound which results in significant gains in tyre performance. Black Chili compound delivers 30% better grip than standard rubber, has around 26% less rolling resistance, and tyre life is extended by over 5%. The compound is also highly resistant to cuts and sharp point penetration.
Underlying this is Conti’s innovative use of their proprietary polyamide casing fabric which is frequently combined with space-age anti puncture materials like Vectran (www.vectranfiber.com), Poly-X breaker plies, and Duraskin sidewall protection.
In the last 100 years, Conti bicycle tyres have won more World Championships and Olympic Gold medals than all other manufacturers combined. In the 2011 Tour de France race, Conti won the race overall (Cadel Evans), won all 3 of the Green Jersey podiums, and Conti riders in the Tour won 11 stages, placed 2nd in 10 stages , and 3rd in 6 stages.
Conti tyres have won multiple World and National MTB Championships and accelerating demand for their off-road products has recently outstripped production capabilities. However, the commissioning of a substantial new production facility in September 2011 is now bearing fruit and stock shortages will soon be a thing of the past.
